Although all home care providers (Spitex) are approved and monitored by cantonal authorities, it's essential to carefully review employment contracts to ensure they are trustworthy. The competition offers you the opportunity to compare various providers and negotiate fair employment conditions.

Clarify care needs

After the initial consultation, the provider conducts an assessment to determine how many care hours are needed.

Caution

Be wary of providers that make big promises – ultimately, the health insurance companies decide on cost coverage. There are significant differences in cost approval depending on the insurance.

Compare offers

Use the care needs assessment, with the determined care hours, to request and compare offers and draft employment contracts from different providers.

Negotiation

Use the checklist provided to prepare optimally for negotiations on the employment contract. If you have any questions, contact the information center in your municipality.

Report issues

If agreements are not upheld, you can contact the Ombuds office.

Checklist

Are you being supported professionally, administratively, and emotionally in addition to your salary?

Pay attention to which professionals the provider assigns to support you, such as nursing professionals, social insurance experts, case managers, emergency psychologists, and coaches. Are you also assisted with medication coordination and the installation of aids?

Does the provider offer additional relief for rest and recovery?

Are these services free or paid? Are they provided by qualified nursing professionals?

Does the provider cover the costs of necessary training? For example, a basic care course?

What are the rules regarding rest and vacation days? Compensation for night and Sunday work. Additionally, at least 10 extra paid short-term leave days per year for caring for relatives.

How long is the probation period? Be aware that you can leave the contract at any time during the probation period.

Termination rights for employees Can you terminate the employment quickly if it becomes too much physically, emotionally, or time-wise?

Termination rights for the employer When is the provider allowed to terminate the contract, e.g., in the event of the care recipient's death, or is there a transitional arrangement?

Salary payment The salary should be in your account at the end of the month, not only after the home care provider (Spitex) is paid by the health insurance company.

Does the provider have experience employing family caregivers? Does the chemistry fit? A competent and well-coordinated team can significantly ease your daily life and improve your quality of life.

Compare the financial benefits carefully with other offers Hourly wage including social security contributions, holiday/public holiday compensation, 13th-month salary. Additional insurance (pension fund, accident, daily sickness benefits). Is there a patient co-payment? What is the budget for further training? To the salary calculator.
